FROM DARKNESS TO LIGHT

Years ago my wife and I had some friends living with us. We had a lot of fun with these friends and we especially enjoyed playing practical jokes on one another. Our friend liked to turn off all the lights at night, then sit on the couch and wait to see how long it took my wife to realize he was there. He’d sit in the dark with a smug grin on his face until my wife noticed his teeth glowing in the dark. This, of course, scared the heck out of her! She’d scream, turn the lights on, and we would all get a good laugh.

John 8:12 NLT Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

The reality is it is not natural to sit in the dark. It’s awkward. We were not created to live in darkness That’s why Jesus said that if you are living in the dark you are stumbling. It’s kind of like taking small steps instead of running.

If Jesus is your Lord and Savior than you can remember what it was like to live in darkness. Most likely you can recall what it was like walking through life wondering if people had the answers you were looking for. You probably asked yourself if there was any light at all or answers to your questions.

There is only one light powerful enough to penetrate the human heart; Jesus, the Light of the world. We must all realize and confess our need for the light of God in our lives.

Jesus is not coming back to the earth in bodily form to personally witness to your family members, co-workers, or neighbors. Jesus did not die so that you could join the witness protection program.  He doesn’t need any under cover agents. He needs us to be a witness.

Many of us are better at taking care of our cars and yards than we are our souls.

Luke 11:36 (NLT) If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light.”

Stumbling through life in darkness is not the life God intended for you. He has made a way through His Son Jesus for us to walk daily in light, live daily in real joy, and rest daily in peace.

Blessings,
Scott
